If you caught my recent social media announcement, I have crossed the 50% mark of the first draft of Book 3 in The Jewels of Fate series! If you’re new to my website and unfamiliar with my books, The Jewels of Fate is about a boy named Chuck who lives in New York. When teenagers from his neighborhood mysteriously start to disappear, he learns that magic is real and there’s a faraway world called Acanesia which is full of wizardry. Not only that, Chuck gets summoned by the Queen of Acanesia, who has a strange request. The Queen is holding a competition to find a group of teenagers powerful enough to save the kingdom from a brewing war. Alongside the Queen’s daughter, Caylene, Chuck uncovers deadly secrets from the past, including a lost weapon that could be Acanesia’s last defense against a growing monster army. The Jewels of Fate was released in 2019, followed by The Sword of Sorenth in August 2022. The third novel is in progress, concluding Chuck and Caylene’s adventures in Acanesia. Book 3 is on track to release next year. With that in mind, here are a few questions received about the new book. 1. Will it feature the same characters? In The Jewels of Fate, Chuck and Caylene are the main characters of the story. The book flips between their points of view from chapter to chapter. However, there are a few other important characters: Ryan (Chuck’s best friend), Kimi (who you wouldn’t want to pick a fight with), and Daqua (food connaseur) In The Sword of Sorenth, a few new main characters are introduced as well. However, the third novel will have almost no new primary characters. The reason for this is that there’s much for the five main characters to finish. The series started with Chuck, Caylene, Ryan, Kimi, and Daqua. Each of them have their own goals, desires, talents, and emotional baggage which still hasn’t been dealt with. The addition of new characters would take the focus away from them. 2. How many chapters will the third book be? Book 3 will consist of around 36 chapters, but of course, this can change slightly during the final editing. The second book had 36 chapters and roughly 320 pages, whereas Book 1 had almost 400 pages and 48 chapters. The last book of the trilogy will have less backstory and more action! It is typical in many series for the first book to be the longest while the following books are slightly shorter. 3. What will you write next? The plan is to move onto other projects after Book 3 has been launched. Whether they will be in the same genre, still remains a mystery. Fantasy is a great genre and there are so many ways to build an incredible story, but different ideas would be cool to explore. In terms of reading, I love YA thrillers, sci-fi, and general YA fiction. These may become the topics I explore next. I also love books featuring teenagers, mostly because I was a teenager when I published my first novel. My next book or series will likely have characters around the same age as Chuck and Caylene. I hope this blog answered some of your similar questions and can’t wait to release Book 3 to you. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I have had fun writing it.
